Poster Design
Spokane International Film Festival
For the past four years, I’ve volunteered with the Spokane International Film Festival’s Posterize program, designing promotional posters for a range of independent films. With only the film trailer as a starting point, I’m given full creative freedom to interpret each story visually — a challenge that pushes me to think conceptually and trust my instincts. It’s been a great way to explore storytelling through design.
Best of Northwest - 2025
Best of the Northwest was a particularly fun poster to concept and create. I illustrated a visual collage featuring a symbolic element from each of the five Northwest states. Washington is represented by its state flower, the rhododendron; Oregon by Multnomah Falls; Idaho by a cutthroat trout; Montana by the western meadowlark; and Wyoming by its state flower, the Indian paintbrush. The final design uses a grid-structured layout with overlapping elements to emphasize unity — showing how each unique part belongs to a cohesive whole.
No Right Way - 2024
No Right Way follows Harper, a young adult suddenly thrust into guardianship of her tween half-sister, Georgie. A dynamic that slowly reveals their mirrored childhood wounds. The story resonated with me on a personal level, as I also have a younger half-sister, making the emotional weight of the story especially personal. For the poster, I illustrated balloons as a symbol of youth, joy, and freedom — but tethered them with a red string to represent the weight of trauma holding those feelings back. The contrast is meant to reflect the push and pull between care, burden, and the complexity of healing.
Kumari - 2023
Kumari: A Father’s Dream tells the powerful story of Jagat Lama and his promise to bring medical care and sustainable development to his home village of Kumari, Nepal. I found the film deeply moving and wanted the poster to reflect both its emotional core and its striking illustration style. Inspired by a moment in the trailer, I incorporated a string of prayer flags — a symbol of hope and resilience — as a central element. The overall design is meant to evoke a sense of place, capturing the beauty and spirit of the village that Jagat and his father loved so deeply.
Animation Showcase - 2022
The Animation Showcase is a collection of short animated films bursting with creativity, style, and heart — a perfect first poster project for someone who’s always loved animation. I wanted the design to reflect the playful energy of the showcase, so I incorporated illustrated elements inspired by the unique styles of the individual films. These illustrations weave through and interact with the poster’s lettering, creating a layout that feels dynamic and alive — much like the films themselves. It was a joyful, imaginative process from start to finish.
